By the shoreline in Helsingborg, Sillen & Makrillen has become one of those places people keep returning to – with friends, with family, pulled back by the sea and the feeling that some spots simply stay with you. Summertime the sunsets are magnificent through the large glass windows, snapshots from golden lit dinners and drinks are quickly spread when the light is right. ✨✨ Behind it all is restaurateur Jesper Liljegren. Born in Helsingborg, raised in nearby Lerberget, his journey started long before this location. When opening Bara Vara back in 1999 he helped to shape a new food scene in the city, with inspiration from Copenhagen and Malmö and experience from Åre along the way. When the old bathhouse restaurant became available, he took the leap to build what Sillen & Makrillen is today: a restaurant where the sea sets the tone for everything. Fish and seafood take centre stage here, often served to share. It's the kind of place people describe in the simplest way: "Friends are coming; let's book Sillen." A destination in itself, and a natural part of the city. But it's not only about the food. It's about the people who gather here, the local Swedish produce, the carefully chosen drinks, and the young staff taking their first steps into working life – something Jesper values just as much as what's on the plate. And the future? For Jesper, it's never about standing still. The rhododendrons at Sofiero Castle and Gardens are on their way 🌿 Not quite in full bloom yet – but something is shifting. Buds are swelling, colors are beginning to emerge, and the garden is quietly preparing for one of its most spectacular moments. ✨✨ Over 100 years ago, Crown Princess Margareta, originally from the UK, saw the potential of Sofiero’s two ravines as the perfect home for rhododendrons. In 1907, she brought back a single plant from her childhood home, Bagshot Park. That very plant, a Rhododendron catawbiense, was placed where the ravines meet. It still flowers there today. In the 1930s, King Gustav VI Adolf began building the collection into what it is now – one of the finest in Europe. Today, Sofiero is home to more than 10,000 rhododendrons, spanning around 450 species and hybrids, many originally brought from East Asia by early plant explorers.
